“I still lead book Haram” says Shekau

The disputed leader of Boko Haram Abubakar Shekau has said he is still in charge of Nigeria’s militant Islamist group(Boko Haram) despite a statement by so-called Islamic State that he had been replaced by Abu Musab al-Barnawi.Abubakar Shekau denounced the IS declaration that Abu Musab al-Barnawiwas now leader, Shekau further accused Musab of staging a coup against him

In a 10-minute audio message in both Arabic and Hausa, Shekau appeared to enstranged Boko Haram from IS, but still retained its leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi “caliph”.He then described al-Barnawi and his followers as polytheist.

Boko Haram has split before but this is the most serious fractioning to date.Abubakar Shekau’s outburst clearly indicates that there are deep disagreements, which may escalate into clashes between the foot soldiers loyal to the two leaders.Military officials say the split is an indication that the group is living its last days. This division has provided Nigeria and the other regional forces an opportunity to put an end to this menacing group.
