Recent news in Nigerian entertainment has been filled with tales of marriages crashing. To mention just a few,
Tonto Dikeh’s marriage was recently troubled, in fact so troubled that she removed her husband’s name, Churchill from her name on all her social media pages and also started deleting pictures.
She also sent a message to star actress Mercy Johnson to apologise for insulting her family and calling her daughter ugly. Although it looks like Tonto Dikeh’s marriage is back on track but that is not the same with star actress Taiwo Aromokun’s marriage as she has left her own husband in Holland and has run back to Nigeria with her twins.
The actress made the statement that she did not care about any man but just wants to get her career back on track and just take care of her kids.
Another star actress, Ibinabo Fiberisima has had her sixth marriage hit the rocks too and this follows a lot of other marriages of these superstars crashing.
Funny is how male actors have also had issues though not as much as that of their female counterparts. Emeka Ike, Damola Olatunji, and Joseph Benjamin are just a few names to mention.
The list of crashed marriages in Nollywood is endless and looks like it is growing. From Funke Akindele to Oge Okoye, Toyin Aimakhu and so on.
The question then remains, what is crashing the marriages of these actors and actresses, especially the actresses. Is it a curse, is it a jinx or is it just that these actresses cannot bow to any man or feel they are bigger than any man or just do not have the patience it takes to stay in their marriages.
Of course we are not advocating that anyone stays in a union that he or she is not happy in or is being abused, however the spate of marriages crashing has been on the increase for a while now and its attendant effects on children, families and of course the job not minding how society perceives it.
What then is the solution to these crashes?
